I am Karen Tarlton, artist, Mom and military spouse, married 30 years. I paint whimsical animals and figures, textural florals, landscapes and cityscapes and my work has a large online worldwide following. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to study the artwork of master painters across the country. My travels to Europe and many military moves across our country have provided a new dimension to my art in terms of subject matter and application.
Sweeping color, texture and impressionism are the words that describe what I love to do. I am more concerned with creating a mood with rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. My travels all over the world as a military spouse have inspired me intensely. Nothing inspires me more than a trip to a new destination and we have moved 20 times in 27 years to states all over the country and places all over the world. I am inspired by a sunset, a child, or a tree in morning light. The master painters that have most inspired me are Van Gogh and Picasso for their unbelievable vision, work ethic, and passion.
I work primarily on canvas in oil with a palette knife, using this technique for many years now. My techniques allow for interesting textural possibilities and complex color layers in an expressive, impressionistic style which borders on abstract.
I am currently licensed with companies such as Dianoche Designs, and others who sell images of my artwork on blankets, towels, rugs, and illuminated canvas among other items. You may find my art reproduced by these companies on sites such as One King's Lane, Amazon, Wayfair, Josh and Main and Walmart.
In 2015, I was commissioned by Tupelo Honey Cafe, Inc to create Series of paintings for a new Tupelo Honey Restaurant in Arlington, VA.
